A cutting from the Adscene back in the 1980's. Anyone know if the two postboxes mentioned are still there?


"Unique among Broadstairs' pillar-boxes is this one near the Calais Court Hotel, the only postbox in the town bearing the cipher of King Edward VIII (E VIII R). He reigned for just 325 days in 1936 before abdicating to marry Mrs. Simpson. There is just one other Edward VIII box in Thanet, outside the Club Tiberius on Ramsgate seafront."

There is a postbox outside what used to be Tiberius casino, also known as the Royal Victoria Pavillion, but I can't see the front of it on google street view..

The other one that you mention outside the Callis Court Hotel (renamed the Lanthorne in the mid 90's) is still there..

I had a walk down to Ramsgate harbour this morning and found this one still there...
