Sandwich War Memorial

SANDWICH WAR MEMORIAL

This is in the High Street.  When I was in the Roger Manwood's School CCF and, later, the Sandwich TA, I took part in two Remembrance Day Parades here.
As you may see from the inscriptions on the collage (some of WWI ones are not depicted), many locals gave their lives in four conflicts - quite a sacrifice for a small town.

Here are the remainder of the names on the Sandwich War Memorial - my photo had originally gone 'walkies' and I've only just tracked it down.
Of all the names in this and the previous picture, there are four sets of brothers; Day, Kendall, Pittock(A & PT) and Sutton.  It is possible that others were related to each other in some way, including the Easts.  The Days, both 2nd.Lts, were the sons of the Reverend Day of St Peter's Church, the building shown in the background of the main picture, behind the Memorial.
