Additional Information:Son of Walter Harry and Rosa Lewis; husband of Winifred Annie Lewis, of Stubbington, Hampshire.


Corporal Walter Harry Lewis was one of many fatal casualties from the Luftwaffe attack on R.A.F. Tangmere on the afternoon of 16th August 1940, and he was buried in the local churchyard four days later alongside some of his comrades. Attached is the Burial Return (R.A.F. Form 1755)

Walter Harry Lewis
Born 1902
Baptised 24.4.1902 Alvington, Gloucs.
Married Winifred A Morris ¼ Dec 1927, Fareham.

In 1911  with his mother Rosa(widow) at Alvington . mother a Domestic Housekeeper. Walter the only child.
In 1901 his parents at Alvington . Father Harry a Butcher on own account. 

Believe in 1939 Winifred A(20.8.1907) with son Ronald(1930) at 9 Marks Rd, Fareham. She was “Unpaid Domestic Duties”.
Also one closed entry(another child?). Walter not there as presumably already in RAF
