My wife found a photo on Facebook which purported to show a pontoon bridge that was constructed in 1915 between Tilbury and Gravesend. It was supposed to have been in use from 1915 to 1918. The photo was apparently of Gravesend and showed a pontoon section taken from a little way into the river looking back along it to Gravesend. No view the other way. Now I think this must have been a misinterpretations of a "floating bridge" which we would refer to as a ferry.

It would also prevent ships getting to the London Docks, which were important then and also takes no account of the fast flowing centre of the river. Has anyone come across this before?
