On the village green at Westbere, Kent, is this memorial to Pilot Officer John Bland and Flying Officer Franciszek Gruszka, two R.A.F. pilots who lost their lives in the vicinity on the 18th August, 1940. The memorial, a rectangle of black granite, was the idea of the local village preservation society and was funded by donations from various sources. It was unveiled back in August 2010, on the 70th anniversary of their death.

Not the best photographs in the world, I'm afraid. I was working and didn't have the trusty camera with me, relying instead on a dodgy mobile phone. I might try for some clearer shots when I'm better prepared.
