Piper Cub Coupé (G-AFSZ) incident, Fairoaks, May 1962

On 30 May 1962 Cub Coupé G-AFSZ was flown from the owner's private airstrip at Cranleigh to Fairoaks Aerodrome. It must have made a very heavy landing at Fairoaks as it broke its back in the course of so doing. The pilot and owner, Edward Barker, then sold the wreckage to B.J.Jackson, who intended to rebuild it, but the plan didn't come to fruition and the aeroplane was scrapped.

The Surrey Advertiser of Saturday June 2nd 1962 indicates that John Wright, owner of the airstrip at Rydinghurst Farm, Cranleigh, was flying the aircraft when it crashed.
