11th April 1943.
At 00.50 hours a Boston aircraft of No.418 Squadron, piloted by Flight Lieutenant Frey, crashed on landing. The occurrence was found to be due to the collapse of the nose wheel. Later the body of a naval rating of N.F.I.U., Able Seaman Trenchard, was found on the runway used by the Boston and in view of the serious injuries sustained by the deceased, it was presumed that he had been run over by the aircraft, thereby causing damage to the nose wheel. The crew of the Boston were uninjured.
