ROCHESTER'S TANK
The Peace Celebrations at Rochester, which were commenced on July 19th, were continued during last week-end. On Saturday, the Tank presented to the City by the War Council in recognition of the local efforts in the raising of war funds, was received. Many thousands of people witnessed the passing of the Tank from the Goods Station to the Castle Grounds, where it is to remain on a concrete base. In the long procession accompanying the Tank was a military escort, and the Mayor and Corporation. At the Castle Gardens there was a guard of honour composed of seamen of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines and the 1st R.W. Kent Regiment from Gravesend. The band of the latter also discoursed music in the Band Stand. Major General Sir H. Mullaly, Commanding Thames and Medway Garrison, formally presented the Tank and referred to the valour of the West Kents during the war. The Mayor of Rochester (Alderman and Colonel H. Breton) accepted the Tank on behalf of the City.
