Once again there will be a few days of flying at the Eastbourne International Airshow, 9th - 12th August 2012. Unfortunately the Red Arrows can't make it this year as they are due to be in Russia, but I'm sure the event will still be more than worthwhile!

The UK’s only working Vulcan bomber could be flying at the 20th year of Airbourne this August, as organisers seek sponsorship for the historic jet. Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Neil Stanley said "We’ve been patiently waiting, along with many Airbourne fans, for this fantastic jet to join the skies again.  The Vulcan is an amazing aircraft, with its deep rumble and imposing shape - it is a sight to behold, however it is a huge machine and the most expensive display aircraft to run. We’d love to bring the Vulcan to Eastbourne for the very first time, and would urge any local businesses who can help, to come forward and help sponsor this fantastic display."

Anyone likely to be going to this event? I hope to get down that way, if I can't get the petrol I'll crawl on hands and knees if the Vulcan is displaying  Cheesy

Might go along, 2 years ago we won a beach hut for the day so had front row view in comfort, Not one of the best shows I've seen but I suppose as a civvy show as good as it can get. Often long gaps between events or fly overs.

Anyone know which aircraft will be staging out of Manston for the event, and what times? The BBMF aren't very specific about their Flight, stating Biggin Hill / Manston. I believe the Hunter is landing at Manston, but can't find times or days.

Only seen the Hawk in special display paint job of a big roundel with ?heart shaped centre?Huh underneath....
Plus what looked to be a Lynx heading over Bexhill to trolley along the seafront no doubt.
Vulcan reported to be attending (Sunday as well as Olympics Closing Ceremony and somewhere else) all in one sortie no doubt....

Should have a few decibels rattling around the place.

Did glimpse "something" a bit WW2 ish earlier in the week performing a few manoeuvres, again to the east of Eastbourne, bit like a Hurricane but I think there's only one about now, and it looked a bit like a radial.... Yak came to mind but I thought the Yak had more triangular shaped wings.
Yes, I know there is a TYPHOON , but it looked more like the original, certainly not the one in service now!!! Only had a quick glance before it disappeared out of sight.

Could be the Sea Fury?

Apologies, believe Vulcan will be on Saturday, not Sunday as I incorrectly stated earlier.

Sea Fury, hmmm, still feel the wings were wrong, no curved rear aspect, but it was just a glimpse as it disappeared over the roof line....
Annoyingly, I had heard it for a couple of minutes but every time I think I hear an unusual aircraft, it turns out to be a lorry grinding up the hill nearby. The one time I assume it is a lorry, it's not!!

There was something chucking itself around the sky over us about 3pm, prop, possibly radial but couldn't see anything as it was plain metal and the sun was glaring off it

Saw the Lancaster earlier heading out of Manston, also a couple of Delta winged jets, not sure what they were?? Also the Typhoon and the multi-coloured jet.

the multi-coloured jet.

Sounds like the Hawker Hunter, "Miss Demeanour". Beautiful aircraft, not sure about the colour scheme though. The pilot Jonathon said "It's not a felony to paint a Hunter this way, just a Miss Demeanour."

Does anyone here use Amateur radio?? The frequency for Manston Airport is 435.550, I'm sure there will be various comings and goings over the weekend, I might try and borrow a receiver from a friend  Wink

......and all I get are l'Armée de l'Air Epsilons, Transalls, Alpha Jets, Rafales and Mirage 2000s flying low down our valley and jigging to miss our chimneys. Huh, some people have all the luck!
