CHICHESTER HOME GUARD/REEVES GARAGE INCIDENT
« on: August 16, 2023, 14:10:46 pm »
On February 10th 1943 in North Street In Chichester, 16 year old Norman George Lawrence lost his life when a bomb destroyed Reeves Garage. Norman lived with his parents in Bognor, George and Anne, and is listed as being a member of the Home Guard. The bombing also took the lives of several other people including a young girl. I have found very little about the Lawrence family, and even less about Norman and his involvement with the Home Guard.  Can anybody add anything please?

This is the report in the local press on young Norman's funeral. The Find a Grave website gives his grave location as: Plot info: Ext 205 A(D)

And his death notice in the same issue, although this contains two different spellings for the surname..

Thanks for that John, give's me more to go on with. I have learnt a little more, speaking to a mate from Chichester whos Grandad, working in a reserved occupation for the Electricity Board, who was also a close friend of the family killed in the incident, was called to the incident which seriously affected him for some time.
I will post more as I find it.
