D.H.100 Vampire (VV657) forced landing, Odiham, 5 June 1951
« on: November 16, 2023, 11:28:20 am »
On a flight out of RAF Odiham, on 5 June 1951, D.H.100 Vampire FB.5 VV657, of No. 247 Sqn, suffered a 'flame out'  and its pilot was unable to relight the engine. Thus he decided to attempt a glide approach back to Odiham but, because he had insufficient height and speed, he had to make a forced belly landing, in a field off base, short of the runway. The Vampire was damaged beyond repair. There is no record of its pilot being injured.

Thank you, Pete. VV657 was a Vampire FB.5. I have corrected my initial post. The reference to Mosquito was an error - probably as a result of me seeming to be almost the only person posting on the forum these days!
