This is quite an early one from Bishopstone Church.  "HERE UNDERLYETH THE WIFE OF HENRY DALLINDEAR THE DAFTAR (Daughter) OF ROBERT HANSONE WHO DIED THE 28TH OF JANUARY ANO 1639"

Notice something missing?  Yes the poor girls name!

Hi Kevin

Yes, I have come across that before on tombstones.
I got used to it though whilst i was transcribing Registers - mostly Marriage or burials where you come across the following:
Marriages
1.      John Smith married Mary Brown
2.      John Smith married Mary
3.      John Smyth married his wyf
or as in burials
4.      Buried the wyf of Jo Smyth
5.      Buried Mary West strumpett of John Harris
or as in baptisms, where the wife didnt normally exist
6. Baptised John Smythe sunne to John Smith
7. Baptz John ye son of Joh. Smytthe
8. Baptises Joh. Smith
9. Baptised John son of John Smithe (most commom)
