From the ORB of No.514 Squadron:

30th June 1944.

A massive effort for the squadron, possibly the biggest yet. 29 aircraft tasked with supporting the Army at Villers-Bocage. This was more than 10% of the total force, and they were briefed to bomb a road junction through which two divisions of German panzers were due to pass en route to counter-attacking the invasion forces. The attack was a success causing the panzer attack to be cancelled. Sadly two of our aircraft were lost.

PB178 JI-P collided at 1925 with a Lancaster of 15 Sqn. which landed safely.
