On 10 July 1957 Bristol 171 Sycamore HR.14 XG548, of the Joint Experimental Helicopter Unit, was being used for development tests at RAF Middle Wallop. On landing at the conclusion of a flight, severe ground resonance occurred which led to XG548 rolling over, causing major damage to the main rotor blades and the tail rotor as well as rotational damage to the fuselage. Its condition put it beyond economic repair and thus it was struck off charge.
