Sydney Norris MARSHALL, 101 Squadron, died 1944
« on: February 04, 2024, 18:14:11 pm »
Looking for relatives of Sgt Sydney Norris MARSHALL who died with rest of his crew when Lancaster 464E crashed 18 March 1944 in Suffolk.
Sydney and his father were fishmongers at Cheam. After spending time in Australia, he came back to live in Surbiton where he was an aircraft fitter. When war came he joined the RAFVR. Was Mid Upper Gunner on the fatal plane.  101 Squadron had perhaps the highest casualty rate of all during World War 2.  Their planes had special equipment to jam German ground to fighter communications. It made them extra vulnerable.
On 16th March 2024 there will be a memorial event at Syleham organised by local residents to remember all 8 of the crew who died.
