WINDSOR, CHARLES MERVYN
Rank:Wing Commander
Service No:26193
Date of Death:08/12/1941
Regiment/Service:Royal Air Force  255 Sqdn.
Grave Reference:24. A. 15.
Cemetery:BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETERY

North Wilts Herald - Friday 19 October 1934

The engagement is announced between Charles Mervyn Windsor, R.A.F., youngest son of the late J. C. Windsor and Mrs. Windsor, of Barry, Wales, and Virginia Allcroft, of Compton, Berks, younger daughter of the late J. D. Allcroft and Mrs. Allcroft.

Three years before his engagement, the young Pilot Officer Windsor escaped, shaken but unhurt, from a flying accident at Manston when he crashed his Armstrong Whitworth Atlas (J9561). In 1941, however, he was not so fortunate. By then a Wing Commander, he was killed when the Bristol Beaufighter (R2398) he was flying crashed at Hevingham, after an aborted landing at R.A.F. Coltishall. Problems with the hydraulics forced a "go around" but engine failure caused the Beaufighter to hit the ground. The incident also claimed the life of Sergeant G. P. F. Langdon.
